Women’s Issues Throughout the Lifecycle

Among the areas in which I have special expertise, women’s issues are very close to my heart. Living in a sexist culture that is only slowly stumbling towards allowing women our freedom to define ourselves and our lives, and to be granted equal benefits in all areas, affects women of all ages. Many of these issues are both women’s and couples’ issues and at times I may recommend seeing you and your partner together. Among the issues I work with are:

Career Advancement and Workplace Issues: Shattering the Glass Ceiling

Discovering that you are being paid less than your male or white co-workers for the same work may leave you feeling furious, helpless, resentful and bitter. Addressing this demands psychological and political-cultural work. Affiliating with local, state and national women’s organization decreases your sense of helplessness, and provides support and empowerment. In your therapy, we will work together to identify and disable internalized misogyny and/or racial inferiority complexes. These often work to sabotage your efforts to advocate effectively on your own behalf, in your workplace.
